On Thursday, the Houston Texans executed numerous roster changes, notably releasing a 2022 draft selection who was previously considered a future cornerstone.
Houston announced on Thursday announced the signing of cornerback Ajani Carter to their active roster. Running back Dameon Pierce was waived to create space for Carter.
"The #Texans have waived RB Dameon Pierce to make room for CB Ajani Carter on the 53-man roster," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport wrote on X.
In addition to bringing in Carter and parting ways with Pierce, the team acquired cornerback Damon Arnette and promoted safety Jalen Mills and linebacker Jackson Woodard to their active 53-player roster.
Pierce's time with The Texans has concluded, concluding after fewer than four seasons. The player, a former fourth-round selection, had a remarkably strong debut season in 2022, tallying 939 rushing yards with four touchdowns and also gained 165 yards and scored one touchdown via passing.
As time passed, Pierce's contribution to Houston's offense diminished, and he's only played in four games this season. Pierce was a healthy scratch in two of the Texans' last three games before being cut.
Despite his Houston tenure concluding unfavorably, Pierce is likely to recover and secure a new position. Hailing from Florida, he exhibits considerable skill and remains relatively young at 25 years old.
The Texans, led by Demeco Ryans, are set to face the Buffalo Bills in a Thursday Night Football matchup to begin Week 12. With a 5-5 record, Houston currently sits outside the AFC playoff standings.
