Officials did not have a good day in the Week 13 game between the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions.
Both teams were the beneficiaries of botched calls by officials, but the Packers did have the slight edge over the Lions in that department.
The most egregious mistake officials made came in the first half, when the Packers were facing a fourth down near the goal line.
Before the ball was snapped, a Packers offensive lineman committed a false start, but head coach Matt LaFleur was given credit for calling a timeout before the penalty occurred, even though he clearly didn't call it in time.
The result was the Packers still going for it and scoring a touchdown as opposed to likely attempting a field goal had they been pushed back because of the penalty.
After the game, LaFleur didn't verbally admit the officials botched the call, but his wink when answering the question said it all: LaFleur knows he got away with one.
#Packers HC Matt LaFleur on if the refs got it right by giving him a timeout instead of calling a false start:

"Of course they got it right! 😜"

Spicy Matt LaFleur is the best Matt LaFleur.
As previously mentioned, that wasn't the only mistake officials made on Sunday.
The first touchdown catch by Packers wideout Dontayvion Wicks was debatable, as one could argue he didn't have full control of the football when he got his first foot down.
The Lions benefitted from a no call on a clear pass interference from cornerback Amik Robertson on Packers wide receiver Christian Watson.
As the games become even more important this time of year, NFL officials have got to do a better job. Unfortunately, there isn't much confidence in their ability to do so.
