When the Green Bay Packers acquired Micah Parsons, the first thing they did was give him a league-shattering contract. That deal has tied Parsons to Green Bay for the foreseeable future. Since then, the defense has looked sharp, and the Packers are emerging as legitimate Super Bowl contenders. Parsons has already made his presence felt—especially when it comes to making life tough on the Detroit Lions.

“The Packers might have gotten a double whammy out of this. Micah Parsons’ new deal — at $47M per year — could directly impact the division rival Lions, who are actively negotiating with Aidan Hutchinson. Parsons and Green Bay just blew the doors off the market. We’ll see if it ends up affecting it or not,” NFL insider Ari Meirov posted.

While Parsons secured a massive extension, he may not be the only one. The Packers are reportedly working on locking up linebacker Quay Walker with a long-term deal.

“The Packers are currently working on a Long Term extension for LB Quay Walker, despite the Packers receiving 2 trade offers for the former Georgia product. Green Bay has told teams they plan to extend Quay. The two teams are the Chargers, who offered a 4th, and the Saints, who offered a 5th,” Packer Report’s Easton Butler wrote.

Walker has been a dominant presence in the middle of the field. Despite the trade interest, GM Brian Gutekunst has been vocal about his belief in Walker’s future.

“My expectations are really, really high [for Walker]," Gutekunst told Cheesehead TV in June. "The only reason we didn't do the fifth-year option is a lot of the outside linebackers are calculated into that number, so it didn't make a lot of sense. We're going down that road with him [to negotiate an extension], as well to see if we can make that happen as well."

If Green Bay succeeds in extending Walker, the defense will be set up to thrive for years to come. Surrounding a generational talent like Parsons with young, ascending players like Walker would be a major win for the franchise. A well-deserved extension appears to be on the horizon—keeping Walker right where his NFL journey began.
