The Green Bay Packers find themselves in an altogether curious situation.
They head into Week 18 with no way to move themselves out of the 7-seed, the final playoff spot in the NFC. They also have two quarterbacks injured, Jordan Love and Malik Willis.
So if you're the Packers, how can you approach this week's game in as lowkey a way as possible?
One way is to ensure that Love (concussion) and Willis (right shoulder) don't have to play.
The Packers began the week with just one other QB on the roster, Clayton Tune.
But they would need at least a backup for Tune if he were to start on Sunday.
That's where Wednesday's transaction news comes in: The Packers have signed Desmond Ridder to a contract.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that it's a signing to the practice squad for Ridder. That sets the Packers up to elevate Ridder for the weekend if they decide they want him to be QB2.
Ridder has had an odd NFL journey. He broke through as a starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons almost immediately out of the University of Cincinnati.
But since then, Ridder has been the epitome of a journeyman QB, getting signed to various practice squads as teams battle injuries and then getting let go as soon as teams get healthy.
Maybe one of these times, Ridder will impress the right person. His latest chance will come in Green Bay.
