Packers rumor from ESPN reveals Malik Willis' expected free agency market image

Malik Willis is set to hit unrestricted free agency this offseason, and the Green Bay Packers have a tough decision to make on the backup quarterback's future.

Though Willis is the backup and isn't threatening to take Jordan Love's job, the Liberty product has done a fantastic job filling in for Love over the past two seasons, and that is going to land him some starting quarterback interest from other franchises.

According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, several quarterback-needy teams will have their eyes on Willis this spring. Graziano also adds that the Packers could look to keep their valuable second-string signal-caller, but a starting opportunity may be too good to pass up for Willis.

"There are a lot of teams that are going to be in the QB market this offseason. Not all of them will be able to address the position via the draft, and several have their eyes on Willis as a potential solution, given what he has been able to do in Green Bay," Graziano wrote.

"The Packers like him a lot and could try to keep him, but if he has a chance to go somewhere else and compete for a starting job, that might be tough to do," Graziano added.

Willis has kept the Packers competitive in most games when tasked to replace Love due to injury. The 26-year-old posted a 2-0 record as a starter in 2024, and his efficiency has been off the charts since arriving in Greeb Bay, as Willis has completed 76.5% of his passes as a Packer and has yet to toss an interception.

There will be a plethora of teams in the quarterback market this offseason, and as Graziano stated, not all of them will be able to fill the position in April's draft with a starting-level player. Willis could serve as a bridge for a franchise, and he shouldn't be too expensive to sign, though he's definitely raised his stock over the last two years.

Green Bay bringing Willis back isn't out of the equation as well. However, the 2022 third-round pick of the Tennessee Titans seems destined to be a full-time starting quarterback sooner rather than later.
