Malik Willis is heading toward free agency, and it seems unlikely the Green Bay Packers can pay him enough to keep him.

That means that Jordan Love will need a new backup, and it means another team will get a quality, strong-armed, mobile quarterback who could potentially be a long-term starter if things break his way.

That team might just be the Miami Dolphins.

The Dolphins now have former Packers running their front office (GM Jon Eric-Sullivan) and sideline (head coach Jeff Hafley).

This week, Hafley was asked about Willis.

"Malik was our scout team quarterback for most of the year, so I got a chance to work closely with him... Just loved the way he prepared. Loved how serious he was," Hafley said. "He's the guy that after a great defensive performance, would come up to me and say, 'Hey, coach, what a great defensive performance.' He's a great athlete. He's smart. He can throw it. He can make off-schedule plays, just a really cool guy to be around for my two years, and I'm thankful for all the help he gave the defense."

Hafley was careful to outright suggest that they'd be looking into Willis.

The Dolphins still owe a lot of money to Tua Tagovailoa. Of course, Tua wasn't an investment made by these new decision makers, and so they could look to put their own stamp on the quarterback position.

Willis isn't a sure thing, but he improved immensely in his two seasons in Green Bay under Matt LaFleur. He's likely earned himself a contract worth eight figures per year, and there are enough teams in need of QB help that Willis should do well for himself in free agency.

Will Miami be the destination? There are certainly plenty of reasons it would make sense.
