A Detroit Lions reunion with veteran edge rusher Za'Darius Smith is looking less likely by the day.

On Wednesday, head coach Dan Campbell was asked why the team hasn't re-signed Smith after the Lions cut him earlier this offseason.

Campbell's response won't leave Lions fans happy, that's for sure.

"Well, we’re good right now," Campbell said of not re-signing Smith. "I mean, we’re pretty good here. We got (Marcus) Davenport, we got good depth, I like what we got on the interior, too, we got a lot of flexibility and we’re sitting pretty good right now. So we’re ready to go, man."

And Campbell's comments didn't sit well with Smith's girlfriend, Detroit rapper Kash Doll.

Shortly after Campbell's comments, Kash Doll, took to Instagram to fire back at the Lions head coach.

"Hey coach. We're good," Kash Doll said in the post that also included a waving emoji.

Smith has made it quite clear he wants to return to Detroit, and general manager Brad Holmes has expressed interest in bringing him back.

However, what once felt like a foregone conclusion Smith re-signing in Detroit — now looks like it might not happen at all.

If nothing changes, the Lions will be heavily dependent on Marcus Davenport, who is one of the more injury-prone players in the NFL. Detroit is also lacking in the depth department, with Muhammad Al-Quadin being the top reserve.

The Lions won't have rookie Ahmed Hassanein or Josh Paschal, either. Hassanein is recovering from a pec injury and was waived with an injury settlement, and Paschal is still on the NFI list and will miss at least the first four games.

What's most frustrating about this situation is the Lions don't seem to have a sense of urgency about a position that is a clear need. We can only hope that won't come back to bite Detroit down the line.
