Will Sam LaPorta play in Week 11? Latest injury updates on Detroit Lions tight end image

The Detroit Lions had an unexpected addition to their injury report on Wednesday in tight end Sam LaPorta.

LaPorta popped up on the team's injury report this week due to a back issue. There was no indication during or after the Week 10 game that the Lions tight end was dealing with something, but here we are.

LaPorta isn't the only Lions tight end on the injury report, as Brock Wright is also on the list due to an ankle injury, which leaves Detroit in danger of being very short-handed at the position.

Will Sam LaPorta play in Week 11?

It's too early to call this one, but we do know LaPorta is not off to an ideal start to the week after he was listed as a non-participant on the Lions' first injury report Wednesday.

Of course, it's still very early in the week and LaPorta is the type of player who can suit up with little or no practice during the week, so we're not pushing the panic button just yet.

One possible sign that LaPorta is legitimately in danger of missing the Week 11 game against the Philadelphia Eagles is the fact that the Lions added tight end Anthony Firkser to their practice squad a few days back.

It is important to note, though, that the Firkser signing could be in response to Wright's injury. The backup tight end didn't practice either on Wednesday.

Detroit will drop its second injury report of the week on Thursday, so we'll know more then. If LaPorta doesn't practice again, it'll be time to start worrying.

Who is Sam LaPorta's handcuff?

That would be Wright, although he's injured, also.

Truth be told, you don't want to start any Lions tight end not named LaPorta, as the young star tight end already has a tough time getting targets in what is a very crowded pass-catcher situation in Detroit.
