The Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles have a common need ahead of the Nov. 4 NFL trade deadline: cornerback.
Both teams have a suspect situation, but for different reasons.
The Lions have been ravaged by injuries at the position, as Terrion Arnold is trying to make his way back from a shoulder injury and D.J. Reed is on injured reserve. Even Detroit's backups have been hit by the injury bug.
In Philadelphia, ineffective play from Kelee Ringo and Adoree' Jackson have left a hole opposite Quinyon Mitchell on the boundary and the Eagles can't simply move Cooper DeJean there because they need him in the slot.
Thankfully, according to rumors from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, both the Eagles and Lions are trying to improve their situation via trade.
"The Lions have been looking for cornerback help at the deadline," Fowler reported. "They come up pretty often in my talks with teams about CBs, along with Philadelphia. Those two are potentially ones to watch there."
The Lions and Eagles both have Super Bowl aspirations this season and could meet late in the postseason, so general managers Brad Holmes and Howie Roseman have plenty of motivation to get something done, which could lead to both teams battling over the same players at the deadline.
Two players they could battle over are the New Orleans Saints' Alontae Taylor, who Fowler mentioned as a trade candidate, and the Seattle Seahawks' Riq Woolen, who has been mentioned in trade rumors dating back to September.
Another name not a lot of folks are talking about is the Las Vegas Raiders' Eric Stokes, the former Green Bay Packers first-round pick who is in the midst of a campaign that will revive his career and is on a one-year deal.
Those are just three names to consider, but there will likely be more added to the list as we approach the deadline next week.
