On Saturday, ESPN reported, citing sources, that Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams has agreed to a three-year extension worth up to $83 million.

The 24-year-old is coming off his first 1,000-yard receiving season and was entering the fourth year of his rookie contract, which includes a fifth-year option.

Now with a new contract secured, he is expected to take on a bigger role alongside All-Pro receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown under new offensive coordinator John Morton.

Moreover, St. Brown is more than happy to see his teammate get a new contract. The Lions receiver offered a two-word reaction to the news: "It's up."

Detroit moved up 20 spots in the 2022 NFL draft to select Williams out of Alabama with the 12th overall pick. He has steadily developed since then, culminating in a breakout 2024 season. That year, he caught seven touchdowns as a deep-ball threat and added 61 rushing yards with a rushing touchdown.

Additionally, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that after a breakout third season, securing former first-round wide receiver Jameson Williams has become a top priority for Detroit.

The Lions have focused on rewarding their homegrown core, extending deals for Amon-Ra St. Brown, Penei Sewell, Kerby Joseph, Alim McNeill, Taylor Decker, Derrick Barnes — and now Williams.

With Detroit's core group returning, Williams is excited for a "fun" 2025 season. He also feels this offseason has helped him become a complete receiver.

"As you come in, I felt like I was getting used in certain ways, but now, it's opening up the doors for coaches to use me in different ways," Williams said during Thursday's practice. "So it's a lot more ways I'm being used and I just locked in on everything."

The Lions will face the Green Bay Packers on Sunday as they look to win a third straight NFC North division title. Furthermore, the Lions will look for a deeper playoff run after losing to the Washington Commanders in the divisional round last season.
