Even before joining the Green Bay Packers following a recent trade with the Dallas Cowboys, superstar linebacker Micah Parsons was never a fan of the Detroit Lions.
Parsons admitted as much on Thursday during a media session after practice. He went on to explain why, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky.
"Honestly, I felt like Dallas and Detroit already had a rivalry. I already got that rivalry built up," Parsons said. "I'm excited to play them. I never liked Detroit. I never liked them, even when I was in Dallas.
"It was always just a heavyweight fight every time they came in. And they kind of got our guys when I was injured last year, or the whole team was injured," Parsons added. "And so I just think it's funny how things work. I'm excited to play them. I know they're excited and I think it's going to go all 12-15 rounds."
Parsons squared off against the Lions twice over his four years in Dallas, winning both contests.
However, he wasn't on the field for 2024 matchup, when Detroit destroyed Dallas, 47-9. That was also the game in which star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson suffered his broken tibia and fibula.
If there's one way to win over Packers fans, it's to express hatred for one of their division rivals.
Parsons and the Packers have more motivation than ever to dislike the Lions after Detroit has dominated Green Bay to the tune of six wins in their last seven matchups.
Parsons and the Packers will get their next crack at Detroit when the two teams square off at Lambeau Field on Sunday in Week 1.
