Detroit Lions lose former fifth-round pick to season-ending injury image

The Detroit Lions have taken a hit to their depth along the offensive line.

Head coach Dan Campbell revealed on Monday that backup tackle Jamarco Jones is out for the season. Jones was listed on the Lions' Week 1 injury report with an ankle issue and was placed on injured reserve before the season-opening game.

A former fifth-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2018, Jones has been with the Lions since 2024, when he spent time on the practice squad. The veteran lineman appeared in two games last season before he was signed to a futures contract in January.

Detroit is now dangerously thin at offensive tackle behind Taylor Decker and Penei Sewell. Second-year offensive lineman, Giovanni Manu, is now the top backup at both spots.

The problem with Manu is that he has zero experience, so there's no telling what he'll bring to the table if called upon.

The former fourth-round pick and British Columbia product surrendered up eight pressures but no sacks in four exhibition games this year and posted Pro Football Focus grades of 58.2 in pass-blocking and 44.0 in run-blocking.

The Lions will almost certainly make a move to add another tackle to the roster and that will likely be Dan Skipper, assuming he's healthy.

The veteran, who is on the practice squad, was banged-up going into the game against the Green Bay Packers, so that's something to monitor.

We would expect the Lions to make some kind of a tackle addition to the 53-man roster at some point this week.
