Detroit Lions wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa is widely expected to have a role in the team's offense right out of the gate this season.
While head coach Dan Campbell didn't reveal exactly how involved TeSlaa will be in the offense, he did confirm on Monday that the rookie will get snaps as soon as Week 1.
Campbell added that TeSlaa will also have a role on special teams.
"Lions HC Dan Campbell says they’ll find a place in the Week 1 game for rookie WR Isaac TeSlaa, and he’ll get special teams reps, too," ESPN's Eric Woodyard reported.
TeSlaa wasn't on anyone's radar when the Lions drafted him in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft, and making the pick more surprising was the fact that Detroit traded significant draft capital to move up for him.
The Arkansas product is on track to proving general manager Brad Holmes made the right call, though, as TeSlaa was one of the team's biggest standouts in the offseason.
He had a strong training camp and then carried that over into the preseason, where he scored three touchdowns and tallied 41 receiving yards or more three times.
TeSlaa also had some impressive reps on special teams as a gunner, showing his value extends beyond just being a wide receiver.
TeSlaa's strong offseason had put him in line to grab an early role no matter what, but he got a significant push last week when the Lions traded Tim Patrick to the Jacksonville Jaguars, which cleared the way for TeSlaa to be the No. 3 receiver.
To get an idea of just how much TeSlaa could play if he fully takes over the Patrick role, the veteran wideout played on 59% of snaps last season.
Of course, Kalif Raymond is also going to be involved behind Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, but as Campbell has said before, the team prefers to not overload Raymond's snaps on offense to save him for other things.
TeSlaa and the Lions will begin their 2025 campaign against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday, Sept. 7.
