Detroit Lions fans are wondering when the team will re-sign veteran edge rusher Za'Darius Smith.

After all, the reunion makes a ton of sense considering the team's need at the position, and both general manager Brad Holmes and Smith himself have expressed interest in a reunion.

However, based on comments made by head coach Dan Campbell on Wednesday, a reunion may not be in the cards after all. According to Will Burchfield of Audacy.com, Campbell believes the Lions are in good shape at EDGE.

"Well, we’re good right now," Dan Campbell said on 97.1 The Ticket. "I mean, we’re pretty good here. We got (Marcus) Davenport, we got good depth, I like what we got on the interior, too, we got a lot of flexibility and we’re sitting pretty good right now. So we’re ready to go, man."

We beg to differ.

Campbell mentions Davenport, but the problem is that he's always injured. Making that situation even more concerning, the Lions don't have adequate depth behind Davenport, no matter what Campbell says.

"Him opposite of Hutch, it’s pretty good right now. I think he just continues on the trajectory he’s at right now, and just take it one day at a time," Campbell said of Davenport. "I’m glad we got him.”

The Lions are also missing a pair of edge rushers due to injury in Josh Paschal, who will miss the first four games at least as he remains on the NFI list, and Ahmed Hassanein, who was waived with an injury settlement but is expected to return eventually.

The fact that the Lions have $34 million in unused cap space and haven't made any semblance of a significant addition along the edge is just unacceptable for a team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations.

Say what you want about the Green Bay Packers, but at least they went for it with the Micah Parsons trade. We have yet to see the Lions make such a move, or even come close to it.
