Nobody can ever accuse Detroit Lions cornerback Amik Robertson of not having high standards.
Robertson regularly holds himself to a high standard, and the same can be said for the entire Lions roster, which is a testament to the kind of fantastic culture head coach Dan Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes has built.
With D.J. Reed sidelined on Sunday after he was placed on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury, Robertson was given the unenviable task of guarding Bengals wide receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
While Robertson helped keep Chase in check for much of the afternoon and even had an interception on a pass thrown to Chase, he no doubt saw some struggles with his assignment late in the game.
Chase recorded two of his six catches for 71 yards and a touchdown when lined up against the Lions' veteran cornerback, according to Pro Football Focus.
After the game, Robertson ripped himself for the showing.
"Me personally, I feel like s***. Outside looking in, you might say, ‘He caught a pick and he started off fast, he’s all over the field,’ but it’s like, I do that s*** in my sleep. This s*** is all about finishing. Next week, I’ll finish," Robertson said.
Robertson gave up six catches in total, but those went for just 33 yards. He did, however give up another touchdown to Higgins.
While we can certainly appreciate Robertson's dedication to being better, it's hard to get upset at him over what we saw in Week 5.
After all, Chase and Higgins are two of the tougher assignments in the league and both have burned some of the best cornerbacks in the NFL before, so Robertson certainly isn't alone.
Like the Lions, we have full faith in Robertson to bounce back and continue to be the plus starter he has been throughout his Lions tenure.
