The Denver Broncos are playing one of their biggest games in a long time on Sunday.

They're taking on the Kansas City Chiefs. The Broncos have a chance to expand their AFC West lead.

And they're doing it with a four-digit number on their helmets.

Above everyone's forehead on the Broncos, there's the number 5280.

Why do the Broncos have 5280 on their helmets?

There's a simple explanation for this: Denver is a mile high.

Literally, the city of Denver is about a mile above sea level.

And a mile equates to 5,280 feet.

So that represents their hometown in a simple, smooth way.

It's not necessary, per se -- it's not like every team has something on that spot on their helmet.
