Another week, another absence for Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II.
Surtain will not suit up for the Week 11 game against the Kansas City Chiefs as he continues to work his way back from a pectoral injury that has kept him sidelined since Week 9.
Surtain, who was initially labeled as week to week, did not return to practice ahead of the crucial Chiefs game and instead sat out all three sessions before officially being ruled out on Friday.
Will the Broncos get their star cornerback back coming out of the Week 12 bye? Here's the latest on his status.
When is Pat Surtain II coming back?
Based on the fact that the Broncos didn't place Surtain on injured reserve, it's clear the team doesn't expect him to miss more than three games.
The contest against the Chiefs will be the third straight game Surtain misses, and the Broncos have a bye in Week 12. That means we could very well see Surtain back in action in Week 13 against the Washington Commanders.
However, temper expectations. Clearly Surtain wasn't close to coming back this week after he didn't log a single limited session, so nothing is guaranteed here. Adding to that, the Broncos don't need to rush him back with an 8-2 record.
That said, it's reasonable to believe his three-game absence, along with the bye this coming week, will be enough time for Surtain to make his way back the following week.
The Broncos have done a good job weathering the storm without their best corner, as Denver has won both games without Surtain and seven in a row overall.
However, there is absolutely no question that Denver's defense just isn't as good without its star cornerback, so the Broncos will get a huge boost upon his return, whenever that might be.
