NFL insider reports the Broncos have come to terms with clutch kicker Will Lutz image

The Denver Broncos are having a season where they are surging. Behind the arm of rapidly developing quarterback Will Lutz, the team is now on top of the AFC West. They have gone 9-2 thus far in the 2025 NFL season, and NFL expert Ian Rapoport has reported that they've re-signed a sometimes overlooked and unsung hero in kicker Will Lutz.

"The #Broncos and kicker Wil Lutz have agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension through 2028, per @tompelissero and me," Rapoport posted. "Coming off AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors after going 5-of-5 with the game-winner against the Chiefs, Lutz leads the NFL with four game-winning kicks this year for the 9-2 Broncos."

This is certainly a sign that Broncos ownership is committed to keeping the nucleus of its current roster together. And while a kicker signing a deal may not seem significant? For Denver, it is. Lutz has been one of the best kickers in the league over the last two seasons, missing just three field goals in all of 2024. This season, he's 17-for-20 and has displayed nerves of steel when it comes to making clutch kicks.

Broncos bye week

Lutz and his teammates got a late-season bye in Week 12 of the NFL season. They will have the week off this Sunday, but will return in Week 13 to face the Washington Commanders (currently 3-8) on the Nov 30 edition of Sunday Night Football.

The ownership and management of the team may look to take care of some more business during a slower-than-usual time in their schedule. Players will get some rest, and the coaches will go over game strategy, as Denver looks to finish the season strong and claim their first AFC West title since 2015.
