The Denver Broncos were to be evaluating key positions on their roster during their bye week, but to this point, no major additions have been announced.
Dameon Pierce, a running back who became available when the Houston Texans decided to cut him loose, chose to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs despite being pursued by Denver. Another veteran player who was recently released was wide receiver Brandin Cooks. The former New Orleans Saint seemed to be a perfect fit with his former coach as a member of the Broncos.
But as reported by Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette, the Broncos were not expected to be interested in signing Cooks. That proved true as on Tuesday, Cooks came to terms with another AFC contender, the Buffalo Bills.
The Broncos could use another veteran presence for Bo Nix to target in the passing game aside from Courtland Sutton, but the team is apparently happy with a group that consists of Sutton, Marvin Mims Jr., Troy Franklin, Pat Bryant and Lil'Jordan Humphrey. A.T. Perry, Michael Bandy and Kyrese Rowan are all on the practice squad, so the team clearly feels it has enough firepower at wide receiver.
Without being able to make any trades at this point in the season, options will be scarce. That's what makes a player like Cooks intriguing at this stage of the season. Though he's not the same player he was when he was drafted in the first round in 2014, Cooks can still provide a big spark at a crucial time in a game due to his savvy and experience.

That could be a great fit for Josh Allen and the Bills, a team the Broncos could easily cross paths with in the postseason.
