The Denver Broncos have made a move to add help to their special teams unit, and they have raided the practice squad of the Baltimore Ravens to do it.
On Monday, the Broncos signed J.T. Gray off the Ravens' practice squad. Gray was signed by the Ravens after being a surprise release of the New Orleans Saints just before the season kicked off. Gray is known to Broncos special teams coach Darren Rizzi who leads a unit that needs to be better.
The Broncos' kick coverage has not been great this season and that was evident when the team gave up a 72-yard kickoff return to Kene Nwangwu of the New York Jets on Sunday, setting up a field goal for them.
Gray will come in and get a chance to help change that immediately.
In seven seasons with the Saints, Gray played in 98 games and had 103 tackles, 2.5 sacks and three fumble recoveries. A free safety by trade, he was selected to the Pro Bowl and named First-team All-Pro in 2021 for his special teams prowess. He was named a Second-team All-Pro in 2019 and 2024, which is why it raised eyebrows when the Saints let him go.

The Broncos signed Sam Franklin Jr. this offseason with the thought that he would have this role, but he was released following the preseason. He is now with the Buffalo Bills.
Gray could be a sneaky good move for a Broncos team that is on the rise following three straight victories.
