Denver Broncos should pay no mind to Brandon Aiyuk, who is set for messy divorce with 49ers image

The Denver Broncos' No. 1 position of need following the 2025 season, regardless of how it turns out, could be another wide receiver. The team has a good crop of young talent at the position but another consistent option is needed aside from Courtland Sutton.

With the recent news that the San Francisco 49ers have voided the guaranteed money in Brandon Aiyuk's contract for the 2026 season, a natural connection will be made that the Broncos need to find a way to get him on their roster. Some have already made that connection

But there are reasons why this is happening in San Francisco and for those same reasons, the Broncos need to steer clear of him.

Aiyuk chose to hold out last year before the team gave him a very fair four-year, $120 million extension. But seven games into the season, he completely tore up his knee and was done for the year. He has not been on the field in over a calendar year but the 49ers would still stand behind him until, apparently, he has chosen not to show up to team meetings and other team activities

That's just inexcusable and speaks to where he is as a person and a professional. So, why would the Broncos want to bring that headache into the locker room?

Sean Payton is a coach who is putting together a team brimming with talent, but also one that has players who keep that team mentality at the forefront. Aiyuk's display of a diva attitude should immediately disqualify him from any discussion to join the team.

Aiyuk is still only 27 years old and has nearly 300 receptions in his NFL career. He will get another shot and there will likely be several teams vying for his services. But his recent actions don't fit the team that Denver has built and regardless of how much of a potential discount Aiyuk could be brought in for, it should not be considered in the Mile High City.
