The Denver Broncos have found a way to win 10 of their first 12 games this season behind a terrific defense, but the team still has many doubters due to the offense not consistently moving the ball and scoring points.
The Broncos are going to have to find a way to be better offensively if they are going to make any noise in the postseason and the team got a big positive bump in that area on Sunday night in its win over the Washington Commanders. That was the play of tight end Evan Engram.
The signing of Engram as a free agent this offseason looked at the time like one of the best moves any team made during the offseason. The Broncos were looking for the perfect "Joker" for Sean Payton's offense and Engram fit that bill due to his ability to create mismatches for the opposing defenses.
But that just has not happened this season. In fact, the performance of Engram has been one of the few disappointments from the team this season. But there is now hope that that is going to change.
Engram caught six passes for 79 yards against Washington, easily his best game of the season. He made a huge play on a 41-yard catch in overtime of that game, setting up what ended up being the game-winning score.
If Denver has finally figured out how to use Evan Engram for mismatches it adds a nice dimension for the offense.

This is the kind of play Broncos fans thought they would see many times this season, but maybe it's just something that took a while to come together. If the Broncos can get Engram to make plays like this consistently, it could open up the offense in a big way.
All season, Bo Nix has just needed another reliable option to throw the ball to aside from Courtland Sutton. There are young players on the roster who have made some plays, but that option needs to be Engram. Over the last two games, it seems a concerted effort has been made to get Engram going.
Evan Engram 2025 stats
| Stat | First 10 games | Last 2 games |
| Targets | 45 | 14 |
| Receptions | 28 | 10 |
| Receiving Yards | 227 | 112 |
You can quickly see that his numbers in the passing game have gone up considerably in every way over the last two games. This could be an incredibly important aspect of the offense for the rest of this season and into the playoffs.

For much of this season, the free-agent signing of Engram has looked like a tremendous blunder. But there is plenty of time to completely change that narrative.
