The Denver Broncos have been incredibly good in one-score games this season. That is usually the mark of a team that makes a deep run in the playoffs.
The Broncos have won eight one-score games so far this season, but their 27-26 win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday night was their fourth in a row. Only one other team in NFL history — the 1986 New York Giants — has accomplished that.
Broncos fans may quickly remember that Giants team, as it was the one that beat the Broncos in Super Bowl XXI that year. One of the wins during that four-game streak was also over the Broncos.
Broncos have won 4 straight games by 3 points or fewer. The only other team to do that in the same season was the 1986 Giants.

I don’t think this is the 1986 Giants. But we shall see.
The Giants finished 14-2 that season and had home-field advantage in the playoffs, something the Broncos have a chance to do this season.

The Broncos are finding ways to win and that is what matters at the end of the day. While their detractors will point to things such as the win-loss record of teams like the Giants, Raiders and Commanders, winning those games in the fashion that they did will only make the Broncos better when the postseason rolls around.
In the playoffs, one play can change a game because teams are often easily matched. The Broncos, having had to pull many games out of the fire this season, much like those Giants 39 years ago, will make them battle-tested and extremely difficult to beat, particularly in games played in Denver.
The similarities in these two streaks are ironic, including some of the same dates. The Broncos also had a one-point win over the Giants earlier this season. No team in NFL history has ever won five games in a row that were decided by three points or less. If that ends up being the case when the Broncos face the Raiders next Sunday, they will become the first. It was a three-point game between them in their first meeting this season.
