The Denver Broncos are extending contracts left and right this year, clearly intent on keeping as much of the team intact as possible.
On Tuesday evening, the team announced a contract extension for center Luke Wattenberg. The four-year, $48 million deal that includes $27 million in guarantees makes him among the highest-paid centers in the league.
It's a huge reward for the former fifth-round pick who was never guaranteed anything in Denver. He started his career as a backup and then had to beat out Alex Forsyth for the starting center job in 2024. Most Broncos fans picked Forsyth to win that job due to his familiarity with Bo Nix, whom he played with in college.
Instead, the job will belong to Wattenberg, 28, for the foreseeable future.
The Broncos have handed out several contract extensions this season and even going back to last season, where they gave a massive deal to another piece of the offensive line, Quinn Meinerz.
This season, they have agreed to new deals with Courtland Sutton, Zach Allen, Nik Bonitto and, most recently, kicker Wil Lutz. It shows how much belief the organization has in the current team, which holds a 9-2 record at present, and its chances to contend for the Super Bowl.
The Broncos' starting offensive line is all under contract through at least next year:

The Broncos will have some other key players to make decisions on this offseason, including John Franklin-Myers and J.K. Dobbins. It's refreshing to see the team handling contract situations in this fashion, as it is a far cry from where the team was just a few years ago, when Nathaniel Hackett looked lost as a head coach and the contract of Russell Wilson threatened to fracture the franchise for many years.
