The Denver Broncos have released wide receiver Trent Sherfield just before their Week 11 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. This may be seen as a surprising move by some, but the team bringing Lil'Jordan Humphrey back this week indicated that it could be a possibility.

The Broncos are having to completely reshuffle many aspects of their roster as injuries are hitting the team at a crucial time of the year. The latest move is to get rid of Sherfield, who was signed as a free agent this offseason for his ability on special teams.

The Broncos have been looking for a special teams standout all season, but that group has been a huge weakness for the team. Knowing that Humphrey will likely be a big part of the team's weekly game plan going forward due to his ability to create openings as a blocker, Sean Payton felt that Sherfield was expendable.

During the preseason, Sherfield made some big catches on offense, leading some to believe that he could be used as a weapon on offense. Instead, he caught only three passes for 21 yards for the team. An eight-year NFL veteran, Sherfield will likely be scooped up by another team.

For the Broncos, the team will be looking for players to step up and make plays on special teams. It is expected that defensive back Reese Taylor, who was brought up to the 53-man roster from the practice squad, will assume the role that was held by Sherfield on that unit.
