As the Denver Broncos are preparing to play in the AFC Championship Game this Sunday, the NFL is in the midst of one of its wildest coaching carousels in years.

Two head coaches were fired during the season (Brian Callahan, Brian Daboll) and since the regular season ended, eight more coaches have joined them, creating a total of 10 vacancies. While some of those have already been filled, there are several teams still looking for a new head coach.

In addition to that, offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator positions will be available as well. The Broncos have a great coaching staff working under Sean Payton and other teams around the league are starting to take notice. As soon as the Broncos' season ends, whenever that may be, these four coaches could be headed elsewhere.

Denver Broncos coaches who could be on the move

Vance Joseph, Defensive Coordinator

Vance Joseph has redeemed himself as the Broncos' defensive coordinator, creating one of the league's best units over the last three seasons. But it's tough to just overlook the poor job he did as the team's head coach in 2017-18, which is one of the reasons I don't think he'll be hired as a head coach during this cycle.

He has already had interviews with five teams and could be brought in for a second interview as soon as the season ends. Teams usually want to get a coach in place as soon as possible, but a team like the Arizona Cardinals — who Joseph has ties to — could be willing to wait.

Davis Webb, Quarterbacks Coach

Davis Webb is going to be an NFL head coach; it's just a matter of when. That is why teams are already looking at him as an option at just 30 years old and a quarterbacks coach.

He has interviewed for the vacancies with the Baltimore Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders already, but a team to watch is the Buffalo Bills, where Webb spent three years as a backup quarterback to Josh Allen.

After firing Sean McDermott, the Bills could promote Joe Brady, who is also a candidate to be a head coach elsewhere. With all of the shuffling that seems likely for that team, Webb's is a name to watch.

Darren Rizzi, Special Teams Coordinator

It would be a surprise to see Darren Rizzi hired as a head coach, but the New York Giants did request an interview with him before landing on John Harbaugh. Rizzi served as the interim head coach of the New Orleans Saints after they fired Dennis Allen during the 2024 season. He went 3-5 but there was some push from the players for him to be retained.

Jim Leonhard, Defensive Pass Game Coordinator

Jim Leonhard, like Webb, is a future head coaching candidate and Payton knows it. He'd love to be able to promote Leonard to defensive coordinator if Joseph is plucked away, but there is some recent buzz that the Green Bay Packers are interested in him for their defensive coordinator position after Jeff Hafley was hired as the new head coach of the Miami Dolphins this week.

Leonhard played for the Broncos for one season in 2012, and he is rising their coaching ranks quickly, but he was born and raised in Wisconsin and would likely love the chance to go home.
