Dallas Cowboys fans are going to be between a rock and a hard place on Monday Night Football as the Green Bay Packers host the Philadelphia Eagles at Lambeau Field.

With Dallas at 3-5-1 and its playoff hopes hanging by a thread, Brian Schottenheimer's team needs all the help it can get, but "supporting" either the Packers or the Eagles is enough for Cowboys Nation's skin to crawl.

But they'll have to here.

With the Eagles leading the division, the Cowboys, while still a long way back, need the Packers to beat the Eagles. Why? Because it still keeps the NFC East in Dallas' sights.

Plus, the Eagles face the Detroit Lions next week, and again, Dallas will be Lions fans there, too.

Say the Eagles lose tonight and then next week to Detroit, while Dallas wins, the Cowboys will be 4-5-1, and the Eagles 6-4. Oh, and the Cowboys will then host the Eagles in a game that, if Dallas wins, could move it to within one game of Nick Sirianni's team.

Yes, it is all hypothetical, and in truth, Dallas' playoff hopes are likely already over, but the Packers have to beat the Eagles for this little scenario to come to fruition.

Cowboys need everything to go right for playoff berth

The Packers and Lions beating the Eagles is one part of what Dallas needs.

The other part is Schottenheimer's team actually winning football games.

The offense needs to get out of its rut, and the defense, which now has Logan Wilson and Quinnen Williams, has to show improvement. And I mean any sort of improvement after Jacoby Brissett looked like a Pro Bowler last week.

Granted, the Cowboys are still mathematically in the running for the playoffs, but it is a long shot.

Everything has to go right -- starting with the Packers beating the Eagles.
