Dallas Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones went full Grinch mode in his release of two-time cornerback Trevon Diggs.
The 2020 second round pick apparently made a standard holiday season request following the Cowboys vs. Washington Commanders game on Christmas Day. NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported:
My understanding of the Trevon Diggs situation is this: after the #Cowboys finished their Christmas game vs. The Commanders, Diggs requested with HC Brian Schottenheimer to stay in Washington for the holiday since he’s from the area and his family stays there. Did the Cowboys really just cut one of their starters because he asked to spend time with family when the team had extra time off? If so, that is a new low for a franchise that continues to make questionable personnel decisions under aging leader Jerry Jones.
As it turns out, a team acquiring Diggs as some extra secondary insurance for a playoff run comes at a reasonable cost
If a team were to claim Trevon Diggs off of waivers, it would be on the hook for the $472K he is due in base salary for Week 18, plus $58,823 if he is active this week.

Diggs has no guaranteed money on his deal beyond this season.
ESPN's Adam Schefter wrote that a parting of the ways seemed inevitable after a rocky couple of years between player and team. "One source said the decision to move on from Diggs was due to a culmination of events, including performance."
The 27-year old received a $97-million, five year extension in 2023. However, due to knee injuries he's only appeared in 21-games over the past two seasons, including eight this year.
