Contract negotiations between Micah Parsons and Jerry Jones have quickly become a mess.

The Cowboys' owner and general manager was in Palm Beach, Florida on Tuesday for an owners meeting where he was asked about the impending deal with his young superstar.

Jones had a number of interesting comments including that he doesn't view the contract situation as "urgent."

He also revealed that he has been having backdoor conversations with Parsons, offering him a deal that would make the edge rusher the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL.

The twist is that negotiations have gone down without Parsons' agent, David Mulugheta.

Parsons, just like Jones, has a habit of making his thoughts known publicly and not in a diplomatic way.

The young defensive standout took to "X" to make it known that he will not agree to any deal without his agent present.

Parsons and Jones have a longstanding relationship. They attended the College Football Playoff together last year and are known for having a relationship outside of business. Jones even said on Tuesday that Parsons is one of the few people who has his cell phone number.

But Parsons was clearly irked by the Cowboys' owner's dismissal of Mulugheta, a well-respected agent who represents other NFL stars like Jordan Love and Budda Baker.

Jones is known for negotiating publicly, but it looks like he made a critical mistake thinking he could bypass Parsons' agent in a record-setting contract negotiation.
