CeeDee Lamb’s season didn’t begin the way a WR1 dreams it will. In the Cowboys’ tough 24–20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last Thursday night, Dallas’ star wideout posted 110 yards on seven catches — but also dropped four passes, each one heavier than the last.

One was a potential touchdown. Another stalled a critical drive in the fourth quarter. Together, they swung momentum in a rivalry game that the Cowboys had every chance to win.

Lamb didn’t duck the media. He faced them head on. “Man, that was terrible,” Lamb said. “I can’t point any fingers at anybody else. I take full accountability and everything that comes with that. As a player, I pray for moments like that… it stings a little bit. But I will tell you, if you think I’m not coming back 80 times harder than this, you’ve got another thing coming.”

The very next morning — on what was supposed to be a team day off — Lamb showed up at the Cowboys’ practice facility to attack the problem head-on. “The Cowboys have the day off today, but WR CeeDee Lamb came into the facility to work on the jugs machines after a career-high four drops last night,” a team source confirmed. Brian Schottenheimer didn’t hesitate to back his star receiver. “Don’t worry about CeeDee Lamb,” he told reporters. “CeeDee’s going to be fine. What a great player. This was a team defeat, and we own that.”

Dak Prescott echoed the sentiment. “There wasn’t a big, long talk we needed to have,” Prescott said. “He took ownership and accountability… It wasn’t just those plays. There are throws I want back. But it’s Game 1, and he’s a guy who’s gonna make those plays. We’re not gonna get down on him or lose confidence in him, by any means. He will make those plays [in the future].”

Now, as the Cowboys prepare for the New York Giants in Week 2, the narrative around Lamb is already shifting. His hands may have betrayed him once, but his response — immediate, accountable, and relentless — is the mark of a star determined to rise even higher.

The drops may have started his story, but CeeDee Lamb’s response is about to rewrite his ending.
