Never, ever underestimate a team's desire to get a competitive advantage. The Dallas Cowboys appear to be trying to get just that after a signing on Thursday.

The Cowboys announced they have signed defensive back Corey Ballentine to the practice squad.

How is Ballentine a spy?

Well, he was with the Packers from 2022 through 2024, appearing in 37 games (seven starts) in that span.

He was also with Green Bay during the offseason before getting cut and landing on the New England Patriots' practice squad. Ballentine played in one game for New England before being cut loose a few days ago.

The Cowboys do have some injury concerns at cornerback, so this could just be a depth move to counter that issue.

If so, the Cowboys are achieving two goals with one move.

Not only does Ballentine offer more depth, he can also give Dallas some inside information on Green Bay before their Week 4 matchup on Sunday.

It isn't crazy to think the Cowboys simply signed Ballentine to get some info.

After all, you know darn well that owner and general manager Jerry Jones badly wants to beat the Packers, and even more so than normal following the Micah Parsons trade, which has rightly drawn a ton of criticism for Jones.

However, if Jones thinks simply beating the Packers this week is going to be enough to quiet his critics, he's sadly mistaken.

Jones is going to be hearing about the Parsons trade for the rest of his existence on this planet.
