Dallas Cowboys have clear possible trade partner for cornerback help image

The Dallas Cowboys have a massive need at cornerback that can no longer be ignored.

Dallas' starters in the secondary, Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland, and Kaiir Elam, have all been incredibly underwhelming to begin the season, and the depth in the cornerback room is also lackluster. The Cowboys have also allowed the most total passing yards (1,189) and passing yards per game (420.5) through four games.

Though it has only been just a handful of contests, Dallas must figure out their cornerback situation sooner rather than later. There aren't any cornerbacks on the market who could be game-changers, but the best possible option for the Cowboys is Seattle Seahawks veteran Riq Woolen.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, teams are monitoring Woolen as a potential trade target ahead of the deadline on November 5th.

"With Seahawks star CB Devon Witherspoon returning on Thursday, teams are monitoring Pro Bowl CB Riq Woolen as a possible trade target by the deadline, sources tell The Insiders," Rapoport wrote on X. "Woolen’s playing time has diminished, and in a contract year, teams believe he could be available."

Woolen is off to a rough start to the season, and with him being on the final year of his deal, Seattle could look to move the veteran defensive back now instead of losing him for nothing in the spring.

Though Woolen is no longer the high-level cornerback he was during his rookie season in 2022, when he snagged six interceptions and was selected to the Pro Bowl, the 26-year-old can still be a solid starter, and a change of scenery could help him reach his potential.

The Cowboys, who need all the help they can get in the secondary, could take a chance on Woolen and see if the former fifth-round pick is a fit on Mike Zimmer's defense. Additionally, Woolen should be cheap to acquire, so Dallas wouldn't have to give up premium draft capital to add the UTSA product.

There is nearly zero risk in trading for Woolen, who can still hold his own as a starting corner. Adding Woolen would make a ton of sense for Brian Schottenheimer's squad.
