Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott voiced his frustration Sunday night after Dallas’ latest loss to the New York Giants, reflecting on the disconnect between his play and the team’s results in one of the NFL’s most turbulent seasons for the franchise quarterback.
Prescott said that the 2025 season has been one that he's been unable to "correlate (his) play to the wins or losses.”

Fortunately for the Cowboys, they rank among the league leaders in total offense and scoring, but their defense is a struggle. Their struggles on defense have led to a late-season slide, failing to convert on-field offensive production into victories. Despite Prescott’s efficient passing performances, turnovers and defensive breakdowns have plagued Dallas during a stretch that has dropped the team out of playoff contention.

Defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus may be nearing the end of his tenure with the Cowboys. The team's poor defensive performance this season has led to increased external pressure on the organization to make changes, and the calls for action are becoming louder. As of Week 18, Dallas has the worst scoring defense in the NFL, allowing an average of 29.8 points per game. Additionally, they rank last in pass defense, 31st in red zone defense, and 30th in takeaways, third-down efficiency, and yards allowed.
Team owner Jerry Jones has publicly recognized the urgent need to address the defensive issues after facing weeks of critical feedback about the unit. Saying that he will address the problems "pronto."Although Jones still appears to have confidence in Eberflus, sources within the league and the team increasingly anticipate that the Cowboys will part ways with him shortly after the season ends, as "Black Monday" approaches.
