The Dallas Cowboys are a team that is not afraid to make the headlines.
The team made two big trades this offseason. First, the team traded for wide receiver George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pickens is extremely talented, but some drama and character concerns made the Steelers comfortable moving on.
Then, just before the season began. the Cowboys traded star edge-rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in a deal that also involved defensive lineman Kenny Clark heading to Dallas. That deal surprised many, as it was assumed the Cowboys would work out an extension for their franchise player.
Considering the Cowboys aren't afraid to make a move, many may be wondering if the team has another deal on the way. NFL insider Ian Rapoport recently provided an update on the trade buzz he's hearing, including about the Cowboys.
"While Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has spoken openly about having the "ammo" for a trade to bolster the defense, those talks are at best exploratory, sources say," Rapoport explained. "Dallas doesn't appear to be moving quickly toward any trade."
This may be disappointing to hear, but it makes sense. The team is sitting at 2-3-1 entering Week 7 and is firmly in the NFC East race.
In Week 7, the Cowboys are taking on the Washington Commanders, and with a win, the Cowboys will take over second place behind the Philadelphia Eagles. After this weekend, the Cowboys will play the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals before the deadline.
It's likely Jerry Jones is waiting to see how his team performs over the next couple of weeks before making a decision. If the Cowboys go 2-1 over their next three games, it would be surprising if they didn't make a deal to gear up for a playoff run.
If the team stumbles, though, Jones could prefer to hold steady. The team is welcoming back star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb in Week 7, though, and that should definitely help things.
If the team does add before the deadline, a deal for an edge-rusher would make sense. The Cowboys have only generated 11 sacks this season, and James Houston is the only player with more than 1.5 on the season. The team could definitely use Parsons, who has 2.5 sacks for the Packers so far.
The secondary has also been an area of concern. Only the Cincinnati Bengals have given up more passing yards than the Cowboys, and the safety spots in particular could use some reinforcement.
