Cowboys' Micah Parsons trade chances get major update from ESPN insiders before opener vs. Eagles image

A Micah Parsons trade might not be so far fetched any longer.

Amid contentious contract negotiations with the Dallas Cowboys, Parsons requested a trade earlier this month. And now? The Cowboys might finally be willing to listen.

That's the new report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, Dan Graziano and Todd Archer on Thursday afternoon: "For the first time, the Cowboys appear willing to at least listen."

Soon after Parsons had requested his trade, owner Jerry Jones suggested it was just a negotiation tactic.

At this point, it's possible to look around the league and see trade requests that didn't happen. Myles Garrett requested one in the spring, then signed a record extension with the Browns. Terry McLaurin (Commanders) and Trey Hendrickson (Bengals) also each signed an updated contract after previously requesting a trade.

For a while, it seemed that's probably what would happen with Parsons, too.

Now?

The suspense is building.

Micah Parsons trade update

There are a lot of key details in new story from the ESPN insiders.

One is this:

"No trade is imminent, but another team always could be aggressive enough to make it come together quickly, per sources."

Another key, on the timing:

"The Cowboys would like to resolve the situation, one way or another, in the coming days with their season opener next Thursday against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Cowboys hold their first full practice in preparation for the Eagles on Friday."

The insiders also aren't sure how Parsons' agent plays a role in all this after Jones has basically turned the idea of the agent back at every turn:

"What is not clear is whether Parsons' agent, David Mulugheta, has been granted permission to speak to teams regarding a contract extension. A team making a deal would want to at least have the framework of an agreement in place before making a trade with the Cowboys."

What's clear is that this is far from over. And something big is still coming.
