Javonte Williams has made the most of the start of his Dallas Cowboys career.

He was one of a bunch of running backs brought in this offseason to try and handle backfield duties for the Cowboys. And right now, Williams has left the other RBs in the dust.

He's done it with a bit of history, too.

Williams has three touchdowns through two games. It's the first time a Cowboys player has rushed for three TDs through two weeks since Marion Barber did it in 2008, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

The Cowboys have four rushing touchdowns overall, with Miles Sanders adding the other.

That comes after they had six of all last season.

"That might not sound impressive to some folks, but the Cowboys had just six rushing touchdowns last season," Archer wrote. "Six. Javonte Williams has three, the most by a Dallas running back through two games since Marion Barber in 2008. Miles Sanders has the fourth. New offensive coordinator Klayton Adams helped design Arizona's run game and has brought some changes to how the Cowboys get it done on the ground, particularly by getting his linemen on the move. Last year, the Cardinals had 18 rushing touchdowns. Good red zone teams run the ball into the end zone. If the Cowboys can be a threat on the ground inside the opponents' 20, it will help Dak Prescott and his pass catchers find some space, too."

Dallas lost its opener to Philadelphia despite a strong outing from Williams. But the Cowboys bounced back with a rallying, overtime win over the Giants in a wild Week 2.

They haven't even had rookie RB Jaydon Blue, the speedster from Texas, active on gameday yet. Williams has handled the load.

Going forward, the Cowboys will need the running game to keep upholding its role in the offense.
