On the first night of the NFL regular season, the Dallas Cowboys surprised their fans with a decision at running back.

The speedy rookie RB out of Texas, Jaydon Blue, was a surprise inactive as a healthy scratch.

Dallas kept just Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders up. Williams ran for two touchdowns, but Sanders coughed up a fumble.

On Tuesday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones shared these thoughts on 105.3 The Fan about Blue: “His status may have him ready to go, but he still needs to crack that lineup.”

It seems tough to glean anything too key from that. It seems like Jones is saying that his health status is OK, but that he still needs to do his part to get on the field.

Blue wasn't listed on the injury report before his Week 1 scratch, although he had dealt with a preseason ankle issue. He played in one of the Cowboys' preseason games, rushing nine times that night for 25 yards.

It's not clear either whether Sanders' fumble could put his RB2 role in jeopardy for a Week 2 matchup with the New York Giants.

There are definitely some Cowboys fans excited about Blue who want to see him get at least a few touches to see if they can snap off a big gainer.

But they'll likely have to wait for the inactive report again on Sunday. The Cowboys didn't hint that Blue would be inactive in Week 1. Why would they give away their plans this time around?
