The Dallas Cowboys are done with defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Cowboys are firing the embattled defensive coordinator after just one season with the team.

"Sources: Dallas Cowboys fired defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. Cowboys now will be going on their fourth different defensive coordinator in four seasons," he reported.

This might be the least surprising coach firing around the NFL since the season ended.

The Cowboys' defense was just a disaster, plain and simple, and it wasn't just because of a lack of talent, which was certainly an issue but not the biggest problem.

The Cowboys' unit ranked 30th in total yards allowed, 32nd in passing yards, 23rd in rushing yards and 32nd in points allowed.

The writing was on the wall that Eberflus was done based on comments by owner Jerry Jones, who regularly took swipes at the defense and wouldn't commit to Eberflus returning in 2026.

Eberflus also took his own swipe at Jones, saying things changed with the defense once Micah Parsons was traded to the Green Bay Packers.

Now, the Cowboys will be looking for their fourth defensive coordinator in four years.

While change was needed, the Cowboys can't pretend this is the only problem with the unit. Jones needs to do a better job of adding enough talent, also.
