The Dallas Cowboys' record-breaking extension for quarterback Dak Prescott has been the source of endless debate.
Just before the 2024 season began, the Cowboys gave Prescott a four-year, $240 million deal, making him the highest-paid quarterback ever on an average annual value basis. He has a $50.5 million cap hit in 2025, but that number jumps to $74.1 million in 2026.
One might think signing Prescott to such a massive extension might make trading him out of the question. Not only is he the most expensive quarterback in the league, but he's not one of the very best, though he's certainly above average.
But although it's certainly not likely, one NFL analyst believes the Cowboys would consider the possibility.
During a Monday episode of "The Athletic NFL Football Show," host Robert Mays suggested that Prescott may be the best quarterback in the NFL whose team would realistically consider trading him, and also named a projected price tag.
"Let's just say you can get under (the financials), the Cowboys would trade Dak for the right price," Mays said. "The Dak, Kyler (Murray) range is probably where I land, I think it's the right answer.

"If you called the Cowboys right now, again, if they traded him after June 1, in theory it would be possible. If you called the Cowboys right now like 'we'll give you three (first-round picks) for Dak, I think they would do it."
Prescott, 31, is a three-time Pro Bowler and was the NFL's Most Valuable Player runner-up in 2023. He owns a stout 66.8 career completion percentage, averaging 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions per 17 games in his nine-year career.
Though there aren't any obvious trade fits for Prescott out there, one never knows how the tides might turn in years to come. For now, though, the signal-caller is hoping for a healthy season and a long-awaited deep postseason run in Dallas.
