Brandon Aubrey kicked a 63-yard field goal on Thursday night for the Dallas Cowboys. And somehow, there's nothing at all surprising about that.
That's because Aubrey is quickly making his case as the most prodigious kicker the NFL has ever seen.
Rodger Sherman shared a stat on X that really sums this up:
"In his 3 NFL seasons, Brandon Aubrey has as many career 60-yard field goals (6-for-9, 66.7%) as every NFL kicker from 1960 to 2008 (6-for-82, 7.3%)."
On the Thursday night broadcast, color commentator Kirk Herbstreit shared his own stat: Aubrey has hit three of the NFL's 15 all-time made field goals from 63 yards or longer.
Not bad for a guy who was a Division I soccer player at Notre Dame and actually a first-round MLS Draft pick of Toronto FC.

His career has turned out just fine from a guy who in college was actually known just as much for his ability to head the ball as an imposing centerback attacking set pieces.
The Cowboys didn't win on Thursday in part because they had to settle for Aubrey too many times. He made five field goals, which is great for him but means the offense wasn't finishing drives.
The loss may doom the season for Dallas, too, which is now 6-6-1 and likely needs to go 4-0 down the stretch to have any chance at all of the postseason.
That's too bad for fans of the kicking game, because Aubrey's leg deserves to be on the postseason stage.
Maybe next year. But for now, Aubrey will just keep kicking lengthy field goals like they're tap-ins.
