A weird irony about Shedeur Sanders and his dad Deion on NFL debut date image

The date November 16 wasn't significant in the Sanders household.

It is now. Deion's son Shedeur is into the Cleveland Browns' game in the third quarter for his NFL debut as Dillon Gabriel is evaluated for a concussion.

Deion, of course, debuted in Week 1 of his rookie season as a future Hall of Famer, so that wasn't in November.

But a trip down the rabbit hole finds that Deion somehow only played one game in his NFL career on Nov. 16, and he didn't record a tackle, a pass defensed or an interception that day. Sanders only had a bit of work in the return game.

That was in 1997, nearly five years before Shedeur was born.

And no, there's nothing particularly foreshadowing about this. It's just ironic.

Deion had a ton of legendary days in the NFL. Shedeur could've been debuting on the anniversary of one of those.

Instead, Shedeur's first regular season action comes on a date that Deion almost never played on, and one he never did anything notable on.

Shedeur can write this one into the Sanders calendar as his own, individual memory. It's time for him to make a name for himself.
