It's a day that ends in a "Y," so the Cleveland Browns have a quarterback decision to make.
After Cleveland traded Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals earlier in the week, they opened up the backup quarterback position between rookie Shedeur Sanders and veteran Bailey Zappe.
While Dillon Gabriel prepares for his second NFL start against the Pittsburgh Steelers, head coach Kevin Stefanski and company have a decision to make regarding who will be next in line in case of an untimely injury to the former Oregon Duck on Sunday.
Shedeur Sanders speaks to the media about being the backup
Sanders spoke with the media today for the first time since his infamous "pantomime" interview last week about the backup quarterback decision.
"We’re going to make sure we do everything we can to make sure Dillon ready for the game...so each and every day, even when Joe was the starter and everything, you know, prepare the right way and be ready to know that you can get out there at any point in time," Sanders said via ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi.
"I’m overly confident within myself. I know when I first got here I’m ready to play, but that’s up to the coaches and whatever decision they make, I’m fine with it."
It remains to be seen if or when Stefanski will make the announcement about Cleveland's backup quarterback for Sunday, but it will be indicative of his thoughts on Sanders' readiness to be an NFL starter.
The two-time coach of the year emphasized the importance of a player being ready developmentally before inserting them into game action earlier this week.
