With one game remaining and Myles Garrett sitting one sack shy of the NFL’s single-season record, the six-time All-Pro appeared on the injury report this week ahead of Sunday’s matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Garrett was listed as limited on Thursday with a hip injury, though the issue is not believed to be serious.
During part of the practice open to the media, Garrett took part in early drills, including a series of sprints inside the fieldhouse, before being held back later in the session.
The Browns will hold one more full practice on Friday followed by a walk-through Saturday before traveling to Cincinnati to face Joe Burrow and the 6-10 Bengals.
Myles Garrett confident he will record record-breaking sack
Garrett, who leads the NFL with a Browns-record 22.0 sacks, will have one final opportunity in the regular-season finale to break the mark currently shared by Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt. After Sunday’s 13-6 win over the Steelers, Garrett made it clear he’s confident the record will fall.
“Absolutely,” he said. “Why shouldn’t I be? Four more quarters, 60 more minutes. However you want to draw it up, it’ll get done.”
Joe Burrow content with being part of history
The star pass rusher has recorded three sacks over his last four games, a stretch he believes reflects opposing offenses making a concerted effort to neutralize him, particularly Pittsburgh.
“To an extent, I feel like they were more worried about keeping me away from Aaron than getting the win, and I think that’s what came back to bite him,” Garrett said. “So they’ll have to fight it out with Baltimore (for the AFC crown Sunday night). But I’m just proud of the guys for fighting and getting this one. That’s the main thing.”
Burrow, who has been sacked 11 times by Garrett in nine career meetings, said he won’t change his approach to prevent history.
“I’m not gonna go out of my way to not let him get the record… I’m gonna go play football,” Burrow said Wednesday. “There are going to be situations where a sack is the best of the bad outcomes of that play.”
