The Cleveland Browns took Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, much, much later than most anticipated he would go. While Sanders carries the draft slide as motivation, as many have done before him, he's also not getting ahead of himself.
With the Week 14 matchup against the Tennessee Titans and first-overall pick Cam Ward on tap, Sanders was asked about facing the player he went through the draft process with.
It wouldn't be a surprise if Sanders were to feel a certain way about facing Ward. As Josh Alper of NBC Sports shared, the Browns quarterback revealed his true feelings about facing Ward, and it's not the answer some may expect.

"Nah, I think it's nothing extra within myself," Sanders said. "It's a lot of great quarterbacks, you know, week by week, that we play against. So, I wouldn't say this adds anything."
Despite a matchup against the number one overall pick and the first quarterback selected in the draft, Sanders isn't viewing this game as anything more than an opportunity to compete.
As he said, this Browns-Titans Week 14 matchup is "nothing extra." Both Sanders and Ward have had their fair share of rookie bumps, but both have shown promise.

Ward's play on a bad Titans team has ignited confidence in the rookie quarterback, but with his season's worth of starts compared to Sanders' two, it's no surprise that the belief around Ward is stronger than with Sanders.
In this matchup, Sanders has the advantage, as the Titans' defense isn't nearly as threatening as the Browns' defense led by Myles Garrett.
This will be an interesting matchup, as Ward and Sanders were viewed as the top quarterbacks for much of the pre-draft process. While Sanders went over 150 picks after Ward, Sanders isn't coming into this matchup with any extra chip on his shoulder.
It's just another game, and one for Sanders to make his case to remain the starter in Cleveland for the rest of the year, and potentially, into 2026.
