The Cleveland Browns finally handed the keys over to Shedeur Sanders, but only due to Dillon Gabriel suffering an injury.

Unfortunately, it remains uncertain how long Gabriel will be out with this concussion, but the latest report from Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com suggests that Sanders could be the starter once again on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Others have confirmed the report about Sanders starting.

"Shedeur Sanders is expected to start Sunday’s game vs. The Raiders in Las Vegas, and fourth-year pro Bailey Zappe will be the backup," Cabot wrote. "Sanders, who had his house broken into during Sunday’s 23-16 loss to the Ravens, will be the 42nd quarterback to start for the Browns since 1999, barring some unexpected occurrence."

Shedeur Sanders has best NFL chance yet

For someone like Sanders, this is the perfect opportunity to run away with the job. There were already questions about whether Gabriel would be the starter moving forward, and this injury certainly complicates that.

If Sanders doesn't play well, he could continue to be the starter moving forward, but if he comes out and does what he has to do, it might entice Kevin Stefanski to give him the keys to the offense.

In his first game against a tough Baltimore Ravens team, Sanders threw for just 47 yards and one interception. He completed only 25% of his passes.

However, there were some factors in that, as reports stated that he's only been working with the second team offense, and those first team reps in the game were the first he received all year.
