Browns' Myles Garrett gets surprise injury news in update before Week 1 vs. Bengals image

The Cleveland Browns aren't in a position to be losing their best players.

The Browns are going to be up against it all season. That starts in Week 1 against the high-powered Cincinnati Bengals offense. And so the latest Myles Garrett injury news is not good.

The update, via ESPN's Cameron Wolfe, came on Thursday afternoon:

"Browns DE Myles Garrett missed practice Thursday with a hip injury, per the team."

Garrett has not previously been dealing with anything listed as a hip injury. When he first wasn't out on the practice field Thursday, beat reporters speculated on X that he was getting a veteran day off. There was no prior knowledge that something was hurting.

It's not clear whether Garrett was injured earlier this week in practice.

Garrett is entering the season after a hectic offseason that saw him request a trade only to eventually sign a four-year, $160 million contract to stay in Cleveland.

The superstar pass rusher is regarded by some in the league as the single best defensive player in the entire NFL.

It may not be enough to keep the Browns out of the doldrums this season. An offense quarterbacked by 40-year old Joe Flacco, or eventually a mid-round rookie, probably isn't good enough to make major noise.

But Cleveland needs Garrett on the field to at least try and stay afloat.

The Bengals wouldn't mind if he misses the season opener, though.

Cincinnati QB Joe Burrow would have even more time to stand back there and deliver strikes to star wide receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

At this rate, it could be a very long season in Cleveland.
