The Cleveland Browns are entering an offseason with the purpose of not only finding a new head coach, but also to improve the struggling offense to become a contender.
With the stellar defense, all the Browns' front office needs to focus on is improving the offense, and things could begin looking up for Cleveland.
According to Dan Graziano of ESPN, the Browns are looking to do just that. It's an update on David Njoku, who's set to be a free agent, as the Browns are likely to make an unexpected decision with the veteran tight end.
Browns likely to make unexpected David Njoku decision
"He likes it in Cleveland, and the Browns like him, so it's possible -- even likely -- they find common ground on a reasonable deal," Graziano writes.
This would be an unexpected move for the Browns to make. With superstar rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr. Showing enough to be the starter going forward, Njoku doesn't have a clear role.
He was already beginning to see his playing time decrease in 2025 thanks to Fannin, and while he wasn't a complete non-factor, Fannin's emergence has made Njoku expendable.

But, this report from Graziano suggests the Browns' spending on Njoku this offseason is likely. With all of the holes on the roster, that makes little sense.
Instead of spending millions on a backup tight end, the Browns should instead look to bolster the wide receiver room and upgrade the offensive line.
A backup tight end won't make the Browns offense any better than it was last year, and while Njoku isn't a bad player, if re-signing him stops the Browns from upgrading at their other positions, it would be a major mistake.
