The Cleveland Browns defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 24-10 in a dominant performance on Sunday. Myles Garrett had three sacks to bring his season total to 18, putting him just five sacks away from standing alone as the single-season record holder.
The bigger story from the game, though, was Shedeur Sanders winning in his first NFL start, becoming the first Browns quarterback to do so since the team came back to the NFL in 1999.
After the game, head coach Kevin Stefanski gave a game ball to Garrett for his dominant performance, and rightfully so. Unfortunately, many Shedeur Sanders fans went crazy about the fact that Sanders wasn't given a game ball, despite completing 11 passes.
Stefanski was asked about that on Wednesday.
"You go into it trying to just highlight guys," Stefanski said via Mary Kay Cabot. "Myles got a game ball, thought [he was] probably pretty worthy. But you're just constantly trying to recognize your guys.
"We spent time this morning, as well, pointing out all of our guys and the jobs they did. Pointed out Gage having a big punt return, that was huge for our team. The d-line doesn't get 10 sacks unless the coverage is really good.
"Obviously, a rookie starting his first game on the road and getting a win is huge, so you acknowledge all that with them."
The attention towards Sanders, as toxic as it may be more often than not, is going nowhere, unfortunately. No matter how good or bad he plays, we are in for a long, largely bad-faith discourse.
