Browns' Kevin Stefanski gets bittersweet job status update from ESPN image

The Cleveland Browns are 3-9 and have dealt with a myriad of issues all year. From their decision during the 2025 NFL Draft with Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, to their mid-season play-calling change for the second year in a row, it's been a rocky year so far.

One of the undercurrents of the season so far has been head coach Kevin Stefanski and his future with the team. There's speculation he could be fired, but nothing is certain.

However, his latest job status update from ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler is a bittersweet one for Stefanski. While his Browns future is uncertain, he's poised to receive plenty of outside interest if he is made available.

Browns' Kevin Stefanski gets bittersweet job update

"Several executives and coaches I've spoken to believe he'd be a prime candidate for a head coaching job elsewhere should Cleveland move on after the season." Fowler writes.

One AFC executive said of Stefanski, "He's a good coach, experienced, two-time Coach of the Year -- Cleveland is a hard place to win, he might need a fresh start elsewhere."

With a weak crop of head coaching talents available this offseason, if the Browns decide to fire Stefanski, he would likely receive instant interest from any other organization that fired their head coach.

The Tennessee Titans and the New York Giants have both fired their head coach, and Stefanski, if he's fired, could wind up being a good fit for either organization.

There are bound to be more firings by this offseason, and Stefanski, who's viewed as a strong "fresh-start" candidate, could be quickly picked up to remain a head coach if Cleveland fires him.

He could also decide to take a year off before returning to be a head coach, like what Mike Vrabel did with the New England Patriots.

But Fowler's report makes one thing certain: if Stefanski is let go by the Browns, he's going to receive interest from around the NFL.

This would be a bittersweet situation for Stefanski, as getting fired would sting, but the interest from around the NFL would prove that the league at large still believes in him to be a Super Bowl-winning head coach.
