Charles Woodson may have played his college football at Michigan, but he’s one of the greatest football players the state of Ohio has ever produced.
And now, in conjunction with the Cleveland Browns, Woodson is coming home.
Woodson is purchasing a 0.1% stake in Browns ownership, according to NFL insider Dianna Russini.
“The sale is contingent upon Woodson agreeing to similar broadcasting restrictions to Raiders owner Tom Brady and removing his name, image and likeness from businesses he is involved in,” Russini writes.
The Browns are majority owned by the Haslam family, but they now add a football legend to the group.

Woodson is a native of Fremont, Ohio. He was a dominant force for the Fremont Ross Little Giants in high school, and he’s the most recent northwest Ohio player to be named Mr. Football in the state.
Now, Woodson makes the metaphorical 90-minute journey east to join with the Browns.
Cleveland is at a tricky spot in its football history, still reeling from the Deshaun Watson trade and contract and simply trying to find some way to put a winner on the field again while potentially relocating their home stadium outside the city limits.
Woodson won’t be able to directly impact the play on the field, but his knowledge of the game and the league can only be a positive for the Browns.
If only the Browns had stayed at No. 2 in the draft and taken Travis Hunter, then there’d be a stylistic crossover between past and present.
Still, though, adding a superhero of the game like the Hall of Famer Woodson is always a great thing.
There hadn’t been rumblings of this move, so it came as a pleasant surprise to the Dawg Pound and Browns fans everywhere on Thursday.
Just don’t get caught up in those Michigan colors Woodson once donned. This is an Ohioan, through and through.
